Although not dealing with leadership, I just wanted to share the clip that I was talking about last class about diversity from the movie Anchorman.
In this clip you see that the boss is having to add diversity to the work team, by adding a female co-anchor. You can see from the reaction of the news, that the workers are not aware of what diversity is.
Let me know what you think.

A wooden ship. HA! What as diversity done to how the news is presented? Look back only 30 years. Who dlivered the news? Have women made an impact? How about minorities?
ReplyDeleteThis could be a good topic to explore!
Everyone in U.S. is a descended of another culture, except the Native Americans. Cultural diversity had a huge impact on every aspects of the U.S. nation. Journalists will tell you that good journalism is about objective, and unbiased reporting, but we all know and see that it is all about the stereotypes in the news. Ethnicity issues are highly ignored cases. Minority groups usually suffer things like accent problems for the particular news region, and journalist ethics that are in the way of their beliefs. As the women and minorities’ existence in newsrooms is decreasing, lower wages for these groups are still one of the main issues.
ReplyDeleteThe Texans do not want to listen the Boston accent in news.

That was a funny clip. I use to think diversity in the workplace was a mandate created as a result of Affirmative action. Hey it wasn't as bad a the "old ship" idea.
